Liraz is a multi-talented singer, actress, and activist, celebrated for her distinctive blend of Israeli and Persian influences. Born into a family of Sephardic Jews with Iranian roots, Liraz's cultural heritage profoundly shapes her artistic expression. Her musical journey began with a deep appreciation for Persian pop icons like Ramesh and Googoosh, alongside Western influences such as Kate Bush and Tori Amos.
Her career gained momentum with her debut album Naz in 2018, a collection reinterpreting pre-revolutionary Iranian pop songs. The album sparked conversations about cultural exchange and female empowerment, establishing Liraz as a bold new voice in global music. She continued to innovate with Zan (2020) and Roya (2022). Recorded over ten days in Istanbul, Roya features collaborations with anonymous musicians from Tehran, who previously worked with her online for Zan, evading Tehran’s secret police. The album—a mesmerizing fusion of pulsing electronics, Persian classical strings, and psychedelic grooves—channels the spirit of pre-revolutionary divas while defying borders. From hypnotic dance anthems to cinematic ballads, Roya is both a bold artistic statement and a call for freedom.
Liraz followed up with Enerjy (2024), an electrifying EP that further expands her sound, blending deep Persian rhythms with global beats and dynamic, high-energy compositions.
Beyond music, Liraz uses her platform to advocate for Iranian women and marginalized communities. Her fearless spirit and unwavering dedication captivate audiences worldwide, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry and beyond.
Now, Liraz embarks on a new chapter, set to release her next album on the distinguished Jazz Is Dead label. Teaming up with acclaimed producer Adrian Younge and musicians from both Iran and the U.S., she continues her mission of bridging cultures through music, blending deep Persian roots with cutting-edge global sounds.
